The InterConsultation
The InterConsultation service is at the core of everything Best Doctors does. It provides you with additional information, answers your questions and reassures you that your diagnosis and treatment plan are appropriate.
An exhaustive review of your medical files, including diagnostic test results, is completed by a multidisciplinary team of Harvard-trained physicians. All pathology is retested at a Centre of Excellence by a top pathologist. Once the review is complete, an appropriate specialist from the Best Doctors global network of 50,000 world-renowned peer-nominated specialists (including almost 2,000 Canadian specialists) is selected to review the clinical synopsis, confirm the diagnosis and provide treatment plan recommendations.
The Best Doctors report is relayed to both you and your treating physician, offering an additional resource that may not be otherwise available.
The InterConsultation process uses three simple steps:
1. Information Gathering
When you call Best Doctors, you will be connected to a Best Doctors Member Advocate, a Registered Nurse, who will be dedicated to your case throughout the entire process. The Member Advocate takes your complete medical history and ensures that every one of your questions is answered.
It is important to note that Best Doctors does not replace your relationship with your current physician. Rather, we offer additional resources, support and information to you and your treating doctors.
After you sign a Release of Medical Information form, we will begin to collect your medical records on your behalf. The information you share will never be passed on to your employer or health insurance plan.
2. Information Analysis
Best Doctors will contact your doctors and medical facilities to collect all of the pertinent medical information in your case. A team of Harvard-trained physicians makes an in-depth analysis of this information and pathology is re-tested at a Centre of Excellence renowned for reviewing some of the most complex cases in the world.
From their initial diagnosis, the team selects the Best Doctors specialist who is best qualified in your illness. The Best Doctors specialist makes a final decision based on all of the medical files and tests, and then delivers the findings and recommendations back to the Member Advocate.
3. Solutions
You and your doctor will receive an easy-to-understand report from Best Doctors summarizing the expert doctor’s findings and confirming the correct diagnosis and treatment plan. The Member Advocate will carefully review all the information with you and answer any questions you may have. Now, you and your doctor have the answers you deserve to confidently choose the most appropriate next steps together.
