Best Doctors connects Canadians and their treating physicians with world-renowned specialists to confirm the right diagnosis and treatment options, without them having to leave home. The service starts with a phone call from our member. A Member Advocate, a Registered Nurse, takes a complete medical history and gathers all records, including diagnostic test results, specialists’ reports and unstained pathology samples.
An exhaustive analysis of the information is completed by a multidisciplinary team of Harvard-trained physicians. Any pathology involved is retested at a Centre of Excellence – University Health Network, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center or Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center – using the latest staining techniques.
The initial review produces a clinical synopsis; once complete, appropriate specialists from the peer-nominated Best Doctors Inc. global network are chosen to review it, confirm the diagnosis and recommend treatment options. All findings are provided to the Best Doctors member and their treating physician in a comprehensive report.
Far from replacing the existing physician-patient relationship, Best Doctors collaborates with the treating team, offering additional resources, education and an opportunity to consult with top international specialists. Throughout the process, our members are able to stay at home, surrounded by their support network, while continuing to receive care from their treating physician.
