Matching you with the right specialist
Through our FindBestDoc service, Best Doctors will find you a specialist if you do not have one and will provide you with the details about the Best Doctors specialist, including location, availability, professional background and any other information required to see the specialist. Best Doctors will provide you with the information you need to arrange referrals*, appointments and accommodations if out-of-town travel is necessary.**
Network Search and Match
Depending on the nature of your case and the personal medical information you provided, your Best Doctors Member Advocate will determine not only the appropriate general area of expertise, but also the appropriate specialty, subspecialty, and, in some cases, the appropriate sub-subspecialty (the individual doctor’s special area of interest, experience, and/or research). Using the parameters generated by this review, the Member Advocate will access the Best Doctors network of medical specialists and initiate a search for the doctor(s) whose expertise “matches” the needs of your particular medical situation.
Geographic Preferences
If you requested that our search concentrate on a specific province, country, or region, every effort will be made to find appropriate doctors in the area you designated. If we provide you with information about doctors who are outside the area you requested, it is because appropriately qualified specialists could not be found within that area and we extended the search to adjoining provinces, countries, or regions. This means that it may be medically beneficial for you to make the extra effort required to travel to see one of these physicians.
Physician Contact Information
After compiling an initial list of recommended doctors, our team will contact the offices of the specialists on that list to ensure they are currently accepting new patients and to obtain additional contact information such as appointment availability and (if available) the name of the person in the doctor’s office you should contact to make an appointment.
Making an Appointment
In order to preserve your flexibility in scheduling, Best Doctors does not arrange appointments with the recommended physicians. You should be aware that specialists generally give priority in scheduling based on the seriousness of the problem and the urgency of the need for treatment. You will need to be referred to the specialist by your current treating physician or general practitioner.
* Access to a Canadian specialist requires a referral from the member’s treating physician, and is subject to the availability of the specialist.
